Echinocereus rigidissumus subs. rubispinus

Synonyms:

-Echinocereus pectinatus var. rubispinus

Habitat:

-It is native of Mexico.

Description:

-Echinocereus rigidissimus subs. rubispinus is a small columnar cactus that will form a clump when mature, up to 60 cm wide. Its stem is erected, it has 30 pectinate radial spines per areole: they are red/purple, making this form very different from a normal E. rigidissimus. In spring, the plant produces beautiful pink or red-white flowers.

Cultivation:

-E. rubispinus is not an esy cactus to grow: a very well-draining soil is very important as well as not overwatering the plant, all to prevent root rot. We recommend to you rain water to water the plant. Put the plant in an airy and sunny spot (it requires bright sun to have well coloured spines). Water well in summer. In winter: keep the plant completely dry, cool and with good light condition. It is very cold resistant: in mild climate it is possible to grow it in ground.

Propagation:

-Propagate by seeds.

Curiosity:

-This plant is commonly called the Rainbow cactus!
