Habitat:
-It is endemic of Brasil. It grows in rocky soils, in the shade of trees (often in association with Bromeliaceae).
Description:
-Discocactus crystallophilus is a globose cactus, the epidermis is green to brownish-green, and the plant form a white cephalium at maturity. The spines are reddish to plae grey, recurved backwards. The plant blooms in summer, when the nocturnal flower comes out of the cephalium.
Cultivation:
– Discocactus crystallophilus is not easy to grow: it doesn’t tolerate frost, the temperature should be kept aboove 15° (8° if grafted). It prefers full sun or afternoon shade. Too much water will rot the plant (that cannot survive to long dry periods. As for other Discocactus, repot is not recommended.
Propagation:
-Propagation is done by seeds.
